Alert Details

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Special Marine Warning for Southern California coastal and offshore waters. The alert was issued at 12:16 PM PST on February 16, 2026, following radar detection of hazardous conditions.

Affected Areas

The warning covers the following maritime regions:

  • Coastal Waters from San Mateo Point to the Mexican Border and out to 10 nm.
  • Waters from San Mateo Point to the Mexican Border extending 10 to 60 nm out, including San Clemente Island.

What You Should Do

Mariners and those on the water are advised to move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Remain in safe harbor until the hazardous weather passes. Small craft are at risk of damage in these conditions.

Expected Conditions

At 12:15 PM PST, radar indicated showers located along a line extending from 8 nautical miles southeast of Dana Point to 27 nautical miles southwest of Point Loma. The system is moving east at 15 knots.

  • Hazards: Wind gusts reaching nearly 45 to 50 knots.
  • Impacts: Small craft could be damaged by briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Showers are expected to remain mainly over open waters.
