AreaZine

Background

AreaZine records the official warnings and notices of the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia (the National Weather Service, FEMA, the USGS, Environment Canada, the Environment Agency, the NSW Rural Fire Service, the Bureau of Meteorology and the recall agencies outside the U.S.) and counts them from the agencies' own archives. Every notice page is built from the agency's record by fixed rules and links to it; no notice or record page is written by a language model, and the guides and research pages, written with AI tools, are checked against their sources (see the methodology page). Corrections are listed on the corrections page, and AreaZine accepts no payment, sponsorship or placement from anyone it covers.

What AreaZine records

AreaZine keeps the official warnings and notices of the National Weather Service, FEMA, the USGS, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Environment Agency, the NSW Rural Fire Service, the Bureau of Meteorology and the recall agencies of Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, and counts them over complete archives: the NWS archive of the Iowa Environmental Mesonet since 2008, OpenFEMA since 1953 and the Environment Agency history since 2006.

How a page is built

A notice page is rebuilt from the agency record by fixed rules and links to the agency page; the agency message is quoted as sent. Counts are computed from the archives when a page is opened, and every section names its source and the date of the data.

What AreaZine is not

AreaZine is not a warning service. When a warning is in force, the issuing agency and its alerts come first; AreaZine is the record of what was issued and how often.
