Alert Details
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston TX has issued a Special Marine Warning for the Galveston Bay area. The alert was issued at 8:18 PM CDT on March 15 and remains in effect until 9:45 PM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the following geographic regions and maritime locations:
- Galveston Bay, East Galveston Bay, and West Bay
- Trinity Bay and Burnet Bay
- Upper San Jacinto Bay, Scott Bay, Tabbs Bay, Mitchell Bay, Black Duck Bay, and Crystal Bay
- Smith Point, Eagle Point, The Texas City Dike, and the Galveston Causeway
What You Should Do
Mariners are urged to move to safe harbor immediately. Gusty winds and high waves are expected, which can create hazardous conditions. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.
Expected Conditions
At 8:17 PM CDT, radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms extending from 20 nm north of Trinity Bay to 19 nm west of Crystal Bay. These storms are moving southeast at 30 knots. Hazards include wind gusts to nearly 50 knots and small hail.
