The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a Red Flag Warning for South-Central Texas. This alert, which replaces the previous Fire Weather Watch, is in effect due to expected critical fire weather conditions caused by strong winds and low relative humidity.

Expected Conditions

Strong to very strong winds and dry air associated with a dryline and cold front will impact the region:

  • Winds: West winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected Sunday afternoon. Winds will shift to the North at 20 to 35 mph Sunday evening into Sunday night, with gusts reaching 45 to 55 mph.
  • Relative Humidity: Levels will drop to between 10 and 25 percent on Sunday and Monday afternoons. Overnight humidity recovery will be poor, rising only to the 25 to 35 percent range Sunday night.
