Alert Details
The National Weather Service in Eureka, CA, has issued a Flood Warning (NWS Alert Code: FAW) for Southwestern Mendocino County. The alert was issued following reports of heavy rainfall and Doppler radar indications of active flooding in the region.
Affected Areas
The warning specifically covers Southwestern Mendocino County in northwestern California. This includes mainly rural areas, as well as rivers, creeks, streams, and other flood-prone or low-lying locations within the region. Urban drainage systems are also expected to be impacted as they process the runoff.
What You Should Do
Residents and travelers are advised to follow the "Turn around, don't drown" rule when encountering flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when flood hazards are significantly harder to identify. Do not drive on flooded roads and remain aware of your surroundings. Observed flooding should be reported to local emergency services or law enforcement for relay to the National Weather Service when it is safe to do so.
Expected Conditions
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is currently occurring. Doppler radar indicates that between 2 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen in the warned area. While no additional rainfall is expected, flooding impacts will continue as it will take several hours for water from these storms to work through local drainage systems and into local waterways.
Timeline
The Flood Warning is effective immediately and is scheduled to remain in effect until 11:15 AM PST on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
