The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon, has issued a Flood Warning for Multnomah County. The alert was issued at 8:02 AM PDT on Thursday, March 12, 2026, and is currently in effect as flooding is already occurring in the region.
Affected Areas
The warning covers a portion of northwest Oregon, specifically Multnomah County. Locations expected to experience flooding include Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, and Wood Village. River gauges on the upper reaches of Johnson Creek at Gresham and Beaver Creek at Troutdale are already observing minor flooding.
What You Should Do
Residents are urged to follow the safety mantra: "Turn around, don't drown" when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain, there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous during heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads and find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicate that between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring as streams continue to rise due to excess runoff.
