Alert Details

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston WV. The alert is effective from May 27 at 4:33 PM EDT until May 27 at 7:30 PM EDT.

Affected Areas

The warning covers Central Gallia County in southeastern Ohio, Northern Lawrence County in southeastern Ohio, Southeastern Meigs County in southeastern Ohio, West Central Jackson County in northwestern West Virginia, and Central Mason County in western West Virginia. Specific locations that will experience flash flooding include Point Pleasant, Gallipolis, Rio Grande, Racine, New Haven, Gallia, Vernon, Waterloo, Henderson, Leon, Cheshire, Adamsville, Gallopolis Ferry, Gage, Centerpoint, Letart, Mount Alto and Cottageville.

What You Should Do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Expected Conditions

At 4:33 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. One to two inches of rain can be expected in a very short amount of time. Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
