ZIP & City Safety Profile

Look up a U.S. ZIP code or state code to see the state-level FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) snapshot: violent crime rate, property crime rate, and homicide rate per 100,000 residents, plus a quick link to the detailed state page.

ZIP-to-state derivation uses the standard 5-digit prefix table (no API call). Crime rates come from the FBI Crime Data Explorer (UCR Summary).

Popular lookups

Property crime

Lowest violent crime rate, by state

Violent crimes per 100,000 residents — FBI Crime Data Explorer (UCR Summary)

per 100k

What this shows Maine and New Hampshire post the lowest violent-crime rates in the country — a fraction of the national figure. State-level UCR data is the most reliable comparison; most "city crime rate" numbers elsewhere are estimates.

Why state-level only

Most U.S. cities do not publish FBI-comparable crime data at the city level — what looks like a "city crime rate" elsewhere is usually a misleading estimate from county or state figures. We deliberately keep this tool at the state level where the source is authoritative. For deeper context (county, metro area, or historical trend), follow the state link.

Rates are per 100,000 residents and reflect the most recent year of complete UCR coverage. Vintage is shown on every state profile page.

How to use this

  • Start with your state to set a baseline, then open the full profile for county and historical context. Browse states
  • A low state rate doesn’t guarantee a low neighborhood rate — use it as a floor, not a verdict.
  • Pair the crime snapshot with live recalls and weather alerts for the same area. Browse recalls

Crime rates are state-level FBI UCR figures per 100,000 residents; city- and ZIP-level crime estimates from other sources are often unreliable.
