Area Rank Lookup
Type any U.S. city name. We compute its percentile rank within the same state across four Census ACS metrics. Useful for relocation research, journalism fact-checks, and casual curiosity.
This tool, in one line
Ranks 4,640 U.S. cities across 51 states and territories by population, income, home value, and rent - type any city above to see its percentile within its own state.

Rank is calculated within the city's own state, not nationally, so a mid-sized city can rank near the top of a small state and lower in a large one.
How the percentile works
A 90th-percentile median income means your chosen city has a higher median household income than 90% of the other cities Areazine tracks in that same state. Our coverage is cities of roughly 25,000+ residents across all 50 states, about 4,000 places in total - sourced from Census ACS 5-Year Estimates (2024).
Rankings are computed in your browser at lookup time using the snapshot embedded in this page. No data leaves your device.
After you find your city's rank
A single rank is one data point, here's how to get the full picture.
- See the full state ranking, not just where your city falls, to spot the cities just above and below it. Browse rankings
- Put your city head-to-head against a specific neighbor on every metric at once. Compare areas
- Read the full city profile for health, safety, and hospital data beyond population and income. Browse city profiles
Ranks are computed live from the same Census ACS 5-Year dataset used across the rest of the site; a city with sparse reporting may show fewer ranked metrics.
Every figure on Areazine is published directly from official U.S. government sources, no number is typed in by an editor. Rankings and percentiles are computed live from the U.S. Census American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates, the same dataset used across the rest of Areazine. See our editorial standards & corrections policy, the methodology behind these numbers, or report a data error. Data current as of 2026.
