Affected Areas

Parts of South East, North West Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and Central North Forecast Districts in Tasmania. Damaging winds are expected to continue for the Western Tiers and exposed South East coasts. Locations which may be affected include Oatlands. The warning has been cancelled for the Furneaux Islands, Western and North East districts.

Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are occurring in parts of the Midlands, Western Tiers and exposed southeast. Recorded gusts include Cape Bruny at 117 km/h, Strahan Airport at 113 km/h and Scotts Peak Dam at 98 km/h.

A fast moving cold front crossed the state this morning. Winds are easing in most areas but damaging conditions will continue for the Western Tiers and exposed South East coasts before easing for the remainder of the warning area by late afternoon on 22 August 2026. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Saturday.
