Tornado Warning issued by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN. Effective from 2026-05-17T19:40:00-05:00 until 2026-05-17T20:30:00-05:00. Severity: Extreme. Certainty: Observed. Urgency: Immediate. Source: Radar indicated rotation.
Affected Areas
Northwestern Martin County in south central Minnesota and southwestern Watonwan County in south central Minnesota. The storm was located 10 miles west of Trimont (24 miles west of Fairmont) moving northeast at 25 mph. This tornado will be near St. James around 825 PM CDT. Other locations impacted include Odin, Ormsby and Echols.

Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building away from windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
Expected Conditions
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. Hazard: Tornado. Impact: Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
