Alert Details
Flood Warning issued by NWS Charleston WV. Effective from 2026-05-25T00:09:00-04:00 until 2026-05-25T04:30:00-04:00. The alert replaces a prior Flash Flood Warning.
Affected Areas
Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Lewis and Roane counties in West Virginia. Specific areas include Northeastern Roane County, Northwestern Braxton County, Southeastern Calhoun County, North Central Clay County, Gilmer County and Southwestern Lewis County. Locations that will experience flooding include Glenville, Cedar Creek State Park, Big Otter, Burnsville, Sand Fork, Normantown, Cedarville, Shock, Rosedale, Stumptown, Wilsie, Nicut, Stouts Mills, Millstone, Orma, Baldwin, Chloe and Nebo. Interstate 79 between mile markers 39 and 44 and between mile markers 77 and 83.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free 800 401 9535 when you can do so safely.
Expected Conditions
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible.
