Affected Areas
The warning covers the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars in south central Catron County in west central New Mexico. Impacts are expected along Willow Creek and Gilita Creek, including Willow Creek Road, the Ben Lilly and Willow Creek Campgrounds, Bursum Road near the Willow Creek Campground, Middle Fork Trail number 157, and Iron Creek Trail number 172.

This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks, streams and ditches. Severe debris flows consisting of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters, climb to safety. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. In hilly or mountainous terrain, avoid numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when safe.
Expected Conditions
At 12:43 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars. Between 0.5 and 0.75 inches of rain have fallen, with additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.75 inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
