Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Albuquerque NM. Effective from August 28 at 2:10 PM MDT until August 28 at 4:15 PM MDT. Severity: Severe. Certainty: Likely. Urgency: Immediate.
Affected Areas
South Central Lincoln County in central New Mexico, specifically the Salt Burn Scar. Impacts expected in Fence Canyon, Snow Canyon, Bear Canyon, Turkey Spring Canyon, Highway 70, and the Rio Ruidoso through Ruidoso Downs. Locations include Ruidoso Downs, Glencoe, and Hollywood.
What You Should Do
This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks, streams and ditches in the Salt Burn Scar. Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters, climb to safety. Avoid flooded areas.
Expected Conditions
At 2:10 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the Salt Burn Scar. Between 0.25 and 0.75 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.
