FFWRNK The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Franklin County in west central Virginia... Southeastern Roanoke County in west central Virginia... The City of Roanoke in west central Virginia... The City of Salem in west central Virginia... * Until 1115 AM EDT. * At 613 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, Ferrum and Penhook. This includes the following streams and drainages... Back Creek, Big Chestnut Creek, Blackwater River and Big Bear Rock Branch.
