What the agency told people to do
Sustained damaging tropical storm force winds are no longer expected, however, strong to near-gale winds and frequent gale- force gusts will continue within the surging monsoon flow south of Typhoon Choi-wan. Continue to monitor forecasts by the National Weather Service office in Tiyan, Guam. Remain in suitable shelter, such as a cave or sturdy concrete structure. Shelter in place until the all-clear is given. .WIND INFORMATION... Typhoon winds of 74 mph or more have begun to depart Agrihan this evening, but tropical storm force winds of 39-73 mph will continue for Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan through at least Sunday morning as Choi-wan treks north-northeast away from the northern CNMI, gradually strengthening through Sunday afternoon. TS winds are currently forecasted to depart Alamagan and Pagan by around noon Sunday, and Agrihan by around Sunday evening. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous to dangerous surf of 12 to 16 feet along north, south, and west facing reefs are expected to continue through tonight, diminishing gradually as Typhoon Choi-wan moves farther away from the northern islands through Sunday. Significant coastal erosion and some coastal inundation remain possible as Choi-wan moves away. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Periods of torrential rain, widespread heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue into early Sunday morning, producing rainfall totals of 8 to 14 inches by early Monday morning, with up to 20 inches of rainfall possible near the center of the system.
