Waters from Altamaha Sound GA to Fernandina Beach FL from 20 to 60 NM... * Until 1100 PM EDT. * At 931 PM EDT, an area of strong thunderstorms was located 12 nm north of Amelia City, or 23 nm south of St. Simons Island, moving northeast at 15 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... St Simons Island Village, High Point, Saint Andrews Sound, Buoy Kby, Buoy F, Dungeness, Saint Marys Entrance Buoy 16, St Simons Sound Buoy 9, Cumberland Island, Buoy Cdh, Jekyll Island, and St. Simons Island.
What the agency told people to do
Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. If your vessel is caught offshore, immediately secure for heavy weather. Ensure all crew members are wearing USCG approved Type I life jackets and nonessential crew are below decks. Deploy jack lines and harnesses if available. Check life saving equipment, including batteries on handheld radios, for readiness.
