North central Otero County in south central New Mexico... * Until 330 PM MDT. * At 238 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Mescalero Apache School, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Mescalero, Lake Mescalero, Cloudcroft, Silver Lake, Elk Silver, Apache Summit, South Tularosa Canyon, Fence Canyon, Portions of US Highway 70 between Apache Summit and the Otero-Lincoln County Line, Eight Canyon, Mescalero Apache School, Mud Canyon, Snow Canyon, Bear Canyon, Sixteen Springs, Dry Canyon, James Canyon, Soldier Canyon, Horse Spring, and Carrizo.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
