Storm Warning Issued for Gulf of Alaska Offshore Waters Through Wednesday
NWS Anchorage AK has issued a Storm Warning for the Gulf of Alaska offshore waters, forecasting winds up to 50 knots and seas as high as 26 feet.

The National Weather Service in Anchorage AK has issued a Storm Warning for the offshore waters of the Gulf of Alaska. The warning is effective from 5:00 PM AKST Tuesday, February 24, until 5:00 PM AKST Wednesday, February 25.
Affected Areas
The warning specifically covers the Gulf of Alaska Offshore North of 57N and West of 144W (Forecast Zone PKZ351).
What You Should Do
Mariners and vessels are advised to avoid the warning area. The National Weather Service recommends a response of “Avoid” due to the severe maritime conditions expected during this period.
Expected Conditions
- Winds: West winds of 15 to 30 knots will increase to 25 to 40 knots Tuesday afternoon. After midnight, winds will shift to the west at 35 to 50 knots. Northwest winds of 35 to 50 knots are expected to continue through Wednesday night.
- Seas: Wave heights will range from 10 to 16 feet on Tuesday, building to 13 to 21 feet tonight. Peak sea heights are forecast to reach 18 to 26 feet on Wednesday.
- Additional Hazards: Freezing spray is expected tonight and Wednesday. Snow showers are also forecast for Wednesday.
Timeline
The storm conditions are expected to begin at 5:00 PM AKST on February 24. The most intense conditions, including peak winds and seas, will occur between midnight Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The alert is scheduled to expire at 5:00 PM AKST on February 25, though winds of 20 to 35 knots and seas up to 17 feet may persist into Thursday.
