Special Marine Warning issued by NWS Melbourne FL. Effective from August 18, 2026 at 2:25 PM EDT until August 18, 2026 at 3:30 PM EDT.
Affected Areas
Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet 0-20 nm. Locations impacted include Cocoa Beach, Sharpes, Cocoa, Canaveral Groves, and Merritt Island.
What You Should Do
Frequent cloud to water lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck and, if possible, avoid ungrounded metal objects. Remember, lightning can strike beyond 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Return to safe harbor if possible.
Expected Conditions
At 2:24 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Canaveral Groves, or over Port Saint John, moving southeast at 15 knots. Hazard includes wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Expect wind gusts in excess of 34 knots, suddenly higher waves, lightning and heavy downpours.
