A Special Marine Warning was issued by the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX at 8:42 AM CDT on May 21, 2026. The alert is effective from 8:42 AM CDT until 9:45 AM CDT.

The warning covers Matagorda Bay, Galveston Bay, Coastal waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel TX out 20 NM, Coastal waters from High Island to Freeport TX out 20 NM, Waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel TX from 20 to 60 NM, and Waters from High Island to Freeport TX from 20 to 60 NM.

Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts that can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas.
Expected Conditions
At 8:41 AM CDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Galveston A156 to near Brazos A4 to 6 nm east of Brazos 490, moving north at 25 knots. Hazard includes wind gusts to 40 knots. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.
