Alert Details
A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City NC. The alert is effective from June 19, 2026 at 12:04 PM EDT until June 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM EDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers Pamlico Sound; Neuse and Bay Rivers; and waters south of Ocracoke Inlet NC to Cape Lookout NC out to 20 NM. Locations impacted include the vicinity of Atlantic, Engelhard, Hatteras Village, Ocracoke, Pamlico Sound, the center of Pamlico Sound, Cedar Island, and the vicinity of Cedar Island.
What You Should Do
Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor immediately.
Expected Conditions
Severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from near Hobucken to near Cedar Island to Drum Inlet, moving northeast at 45 knots. Hazards include waterspouts and wind gusts to nearly 50 knots.
