The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Special Marine Warning for the Maui County Windward Waters. The alert was issued at 7:17 PM HST on February 22, 2026, and remains in effect until 9:15 PM HST.

The warning specifically covers the Maui County Windward Waters. At the time of the alert, a strong thunderstorm was tracked approximately 29 nautical miles north of FAD Buoy N, or 43 nautical miles northeast of Halawa Valley, moving south at 10 knots.
What You Should Do
Boaters in the affected area are advised to seek safe harbor immediately and remain there until the storm passes. Because frequent lightning is occurring, those caught on open water should stay below deck if possible. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.
