A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Lake Charles LA. The alert is effective from 6:06 PM CDT on May 23, 2026, until 7:00 PM CDT on May 23, 2026.
Affected Areas
The warning covers waters from Lower Atchafalaya River to Intracoastal City LA from 20 to 60 NM. Locations impacted include Eugene Island 224, South Marsh Island 78, South Marsh Island 61, South Marsh Island 99, and South Marsh Island 76.

Seek safe harbor immediately. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
Expected Conditions
At 6:06 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located near South Marsh Island 99, or 63 nm southwest of Point Au Fer Island, moving northeast at 10 knots. Hazards include waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.
