Alert Details

A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans. The alert is effective from August 25 at 6:45 AM CDT until August 25 at 7:45 AM CDT.

Affected Areas

Coastal waters from Boothville LA to Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River out 20 nm and coastal waters from the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River to Port Fourchon Louisiana out 20 NM.

Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

At 6:44 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River and was nearly stationary. Hazard includes wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.
