Alert Details
A Special Marine Warning (event code MAW) has been issued by the National Weather Service in Cleveland OH. The alert is effective from September 2, 2026 at 8:57 PM EDT until September 2, 2026 at 10:30 PM EDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers nearshore and open waters from Willowick OH to Conneaut OH, including zones LEZ147, LEZ148, LEZ167, and LEZ168 extending beyond 5 NM off the shoreline to the US-Canadian border. Locations impacted include Ashtabula, Geneva-On-The-Lake, and Conneaut.
What You Should Do
Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Large hail could result in structural damage. Residents and boaters should avoid the area.
Expected Conditions
Severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from 35 nm north of Geneva-On-The-Lake to 35 nm north of Fairport Harbor, moving southeast at 30 knots. Hazards include waterspouts, wind gusts to 40 knots, and large hail.
