A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Key West FL. The alert is effective from 11:36 PM EDT on August 6, 2026, until 12:00 AM EDT on August 7, 2026.
Affected Areas
Gulf of America from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee 20 to 60 NM out and beyond 5 fathoms; Gulf of America including Dry Tortugas and Rebecca Shoal Channel.

Prepare for wind gusts in excess of 34 knots, steep and fast-building seas, frequent lightning, and blinding downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Intense and continuous lightning is occurring with these storms. Stay low, or go below. Lower VHF antenna, outriggers, fishing rods, and umbrellas.
Expected Conditions
At 11:36 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near P Tower to near S Tower to 12 nm north of New Ground Rocks Light, moving west at 15 knots. Hazard includes wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Expect wind gusts in excess of 34 knots, suddenly higher waves, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
