A Special Marine Warning (event code MAW) has been issued by the National Weather Service New Orleans LA. The alert is effective from May 25, 2026 at 7:24 AM CDT until May 25, 2026 at 9:00 AM CDT.
Affected Areas
Coastal Waters from Stake Island LA to Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River from 20 to 60 nm; Coastal waters from Pascagoula Mississippi to Stake Island Louisiana out 20 to 60 NM.

Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never try to navigate near them. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

At 7:23 AM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts was located 68 nm southeast of Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River, moving north at 35 knots. Hazards include waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.
