Special Marine Warning issued by NWS Tampa Bay Ruskin FL. Effective from 4:50 PM EDT to 5:30 PM EDT on May 17, 2026.

Affected Areas

Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound; Coastal waters from Englewood to Tarpon Springs FL out 20 NM; Coastal waters from Bonita Beach to Englewood FL out 20 NM. Locations impacted include Gasparilla Island, Manasota Key, Captiva, Sanibel, Englewood, and Don Pedro Island.

What You Should Do

Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets.

At 4:49 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located near Captiva, moving west at 10 knots. Hazard includes wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Expect wind gusts in excess of 34 knots, suddenly higher waves, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
