Alert Details
A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC. The alert is effective from June 16, 2026 at 4:25 PM EDT until June 16, 2026 at 5:30 PM EDT.
Affected Areas
Waters from Currituck Beach Light to Oregon Inlet NC from 20 to 60 NM and Waters from Oregon Inlet to Cape Hatteras NC from 20 to 60 NM.

Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Wind gusts to 40 knots, large hail, high waves, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain are possible with this storm. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas.
Expected Conditions
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 42 nm east of Ar145, or 44 nm southeast of South Tower, moving east at 25 knots. Hazards include waterspouts, wind gusts to 40 knots, and large hail.
