Alert Details
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by NWS Charleston WV. The alert is effective from June 18, 2026 at 7:54 AM EDT until June 18, 2026 at 8:30 AM EDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers Buchanan County in southwestern Virginia, as well as Boone, Fayette, Kanawha, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Raleigh, and Wyoming counties in West Virginia. Locations impacted include Beckley, Williamson, Welch, Logan, Grundy, Pineville, Oak Hill, Mullens, Mount Hope, Mabscott, Oceana, Sophia, Gary, War, Man, Delbarton, Northfork, Van, Gilbert Creek, and Mount Gay-Shamrock. Highways affected include the West Virginia Turnpike between mile markers 28 and 70, Interstate 64 between mile markers 120 and 136, Route 119 between mile markers 1 and 27, and Route 19 between mile markers 1 and 14.

Expected Conditions
At 7:54 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Chapmanville to near Chattaroy to Gypsy, moving east at 65 mph. Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts with radar-indicated sources. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Torrential rainfall is occurring and may lead to flash flooding. Hail up to 0.75 inches and possible tornadoes are indicated.
