Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS North Platte NE. Effective from 4:38 PM CDT to 5:30 PM CDT on May 16, 2026.

Affected Areas

South central Lincoln County in southwestern Nebraska, including Lake Maloney State Recreation Area, Somerset, and Cottonwood Canyon State Wildlife Management Area. This includes Highway 83 between mile markers 61 and 77.

Expected Conditions

At 4:38 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles north of Wellfleet, or 18 miles south of North Platte, moving north at 15 mph. Hazard includes tennis ball size hail (2.50 inches) and wind gusts up to 50 MPH. Impacts include injury to people and animals outdoors and damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles.
