Affected Areas
Southeastern Newberry County, Northwestern Lexington County, Northeastern Saluda County, and Northwestern Richland County in central South Carolina. Locations impacted include Lexington, Irmo, Highway 6 at Lake Murray Dam, Red Bank, Dreher Island State Park, Ballentine, Chapin, Gilbert, Summit, Cedar Grove Fire Station, South Shore Marina, Oswald Park, Bundrick Island, Putnam's Landing, White Rock, Murray, Rocky Point Recreation Area, Delmar, Hollow Creek Public Park, and Melvin Park. Includes Interstate 20 between mile markers 48 and 59 and Interstate 26 between mile markers 91 and 102.
What You Should Do
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Severe thunderstorms can produce large capsizing waves and frequent lightning. If on or near Lake Murray move away from the water and take shelter.
Expected Conditions
At 5:13 PM EDT a severe thunderstorm was located near Dreher Island State Park, or 10 miles north of Batesburg-Leesville, moving east at 20 mph. Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and powerlines. Source: Radar indicated.
