Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS North Platte NE. Effective from 2026-08-16T22:40:00-05:00 until 2026-08-16T23:30:00-05:00. Alert type code: SVR.
Affected Areas
Central Cherry County in north central Nebraska. Locations impacted include Merritt Reservoir, Highway 97 crossing the North Loup River, Schoolhouse Lake, and Steer Creek Campground. This includes Highway 97 between mile markers 92 and 101, and between mile markers 105 and 116.

Expected Conditions
At 10:39 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 12 miles east of Medicine Lake, or 36 miles southwest of Valentine, moving southeast at 35 mph. Hazards include 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
