Alert Details

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS Sioux Falls SD. Effective from 10:47 PM CDT June 9, 2026 until 11:45 PM CDT June 9, 2026.

Affected Areas

Beadle County, Jerauld County, and northwestern Sanborn County in east central and central South Dakota. Severe thunderstorms will be near Wessington around 10:50 PM CDT, Wessington Springs, Wolsey and Hitchcock around 10:55 PM CDT, Virgil around 11:00 PM CDT, and Alpena and Lane around 11:05 PM CDT. Other locations in the path include Huron, Woonsocket, Cavour and Yale.

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move immediately to shelter inside a strong building. Stay away from windows.

Expected Conditions

At 10:46 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 8 miles north of Wessington to 10 miles west of Wessington Springs to 8 miles north of Kimball, moving northeast at 50 mph. Hazards include 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
