Alert Details

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls SD at 9:24 PM CDT on September 1, 2026. The alert is effective from 9:24 PM CDT until 10:15 PM CDT on September 1, 2026.

The warning covers south central Lyon County in northwestern Iowa, Sioux County in northwestern Iowa, northern Plymouth County in northwestern Iowa, eastern Clay County in southeastern South Dakota, southern Lincoln County in southeastern South Dakota, and Union County in southeastern South Dakota. Severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Beresford to 7 miles south of Union Grove State Park, moving east at 50 mph. Locations in the path include Akron, Alcester, Hawarden, Hudson, Ireton, Craig, Rock Valley, Maurice, Struble, Sioux Center, Orange City, and Hull.

Expected Conditions

At 9:23 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were observed with 70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail (1.25 inches). A 59 mph wind gust was reported 1 mile southeast of Vermillion. Hail damage to vehicles, considerable tree damage, and wind damage to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings are expected.
