Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS Charleston WV. Effective from August 7, 2026 at 7:56 PM EDT until August 7, 2026 at 8:30 PM EDT.
Affected Areas
Braxton County, Calhoun County, Doddridge County, Gilmer County, Lewis County, Ritchie County, and Wirt County in West Virginia. Specific areas include southeastern Ritchie County, southwestern Doddridge County, west central Lewis County, northern Braxton County, and eastern Wirt County. Locations impacted include Glenville, Grantsville, Arnoldsburg, Cedar Creek State Park, Burnsville, Sand Fork, Pullman, Auburn, Shock, Millstone, Smithville, Mount Zion, Newberne, Alum Bridge, Big Springs, Berea, Brohard, Stumptown, Tanner, and Annamoriah. Interstate 79 between mile markers 74 and 86 and Route 50 between mile markers 51 and 52 are also affected.
What You Should Do
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
Expected Conditions
At 7:55 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from Harrisville to near Cedar Creek State Park, moving northeast at 70 mph. Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail (1.00 inch). Hail damage to vehicles is expected along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
