Southeastern Montgomery County in central North Carolina... Southeastern Randolph County in central North Carolina... Lee County in central North Carolina... * Until 500 PM EDT. * At 410 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles east of Seagrove, or 12 miles southeast of North Carolina Zoo, moving south at 25 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Sanford, Southern Pines, Carthage, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Whispering Pines, Broadway, Robbins, Foxfire, and Candor. This includes the following highways... US 1 near Mile Marker 69. Interstate 73 between Mile Markers 36 and 46.

Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
