Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS Phoenix AZ. Effective from August 9 at 8:43 PM MST until August 9 at 9:30 PM MST. Alert code: SVR.
Affected Areas
Maricopa County in south central Arizona and Pinal County in southeastern Arizona. Locations impacted include Gila Bend, Estrella, Freeman, Big Horn, Gila Bend Auxiliary Field, Bosque, Sonoran National Monument, Kaka, Ak-Chin Village, and Mobile. Highways affected: AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 117 and 154; AZ Route 238 between mile markers 1 and 37; AZ Route 85 between mile markers 3 and 6, and between mile markers 120 and 127.
What You Should Do
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Expected Conditions
At 8:43 PM MST, a cluster of severe thunderstorms was located near Big Horn, or 18 miles east of Gila Bend, moving northwest at 15 mph. Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts. Source: Radar indicated. Impact: Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Max hail size up to 0.75 inches.
