Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by NWS Buffalo NY. Effective from 10:00 PM EDT September 2, 2026 until 11:15 PM EDT September 2, 2026.
Affected Areas
Southwestern Cattaraugus County and Chautauqua County in western New York. Locations impacted include Jamestown, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Allegany State Park, Westfield, Lakewood, Falconer, Mayville, Clymer, and Long Point State Park. Includes Interstate 90 between exits 59 and 61 and Interstate 86 between exits 4 and 19.
What You Should Do
Remain alert for a possible tornado. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
Expected Conditions
At 9:59 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near North East, or 12 miles northeast of Erie, moving east at 45 mph. Hazard includes 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
