Alert Details
Flood Warning issued by NWS Wichita KS. Effective from June 21 at 8:45AM CDT, with onset at 11:15AM CDT. Expires June 21 at 9:00PM CDT and ends June 23 at 1:00PM CDT.
Affected Areas
Walnut River at Arkansas City affecting Cowley County. Walnut River at Winfield affecting Cowley and Butler Counties.
What You Should Do
Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
Expected Conditions
Minor flooding is forecast. At 20.0 feet, considerable flooding of farmland is expected. Widespread flooding of the park just upstream of the gage site is anticipated. East Chestnut Avenue east of By-pass is closed due to water over roadway. Greens Farm Road floods between Highway 166 north to Dunbar Hill. At 8:15 AM CDT the stage was 12.5 feet and rising.
Timeline
The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this morning to a crest of 21.2 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage early Tuesday morning. Flood stage is 18.0 feet. Alert in effect until early Tuesday afternoon.
