Alert Details
A Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Wichita KS. The alert is effective from June 19 at 1:50 AM CDT and remains in effect until June 20 at 10:30 AM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers Cowley County, KS and Sumner County, KS, specifically for Slate Creek at Wellington.
What You Should Do
Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown.
Expected Conditions
Minor flooding is forecast. At 20.0 feet, flood waters cover several low lying spots along Seneca Road between 40th and 60th Street just southeast of Wellington. Woods Park within the city floods. Slate Creek comes to roadway's edge at mile marker 15 on the Kansas Turnpike. At 1:00 AM CDT Friday the stage was 16.9 feet.
Timeline
The river is expected to rise above flood stage early this morning to a crest of 21.0 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late this evening. Flood stage is 19.0 feet. The warning expires at 2:00 PM CDT on June 19 with the next statement issued then.
