Flood Warning issued by NWS Morristown TN. Effective from June 19, 2026 at 12:31 AM EDT until June 19, 2026 at 6:00 AM EDT.
Affected Areas
Lee County, Russell County, Scott County, Wise County, and the City of Norton in Virginia. Specific locations include Norton, Wise, Jonesville, Big Stone Gap, Pennington Gap, Coeburn, Appalachia, St. Paul, Dungannon, St. Charles, Duffield, Jasper, Dryden, Pattonsville, Fort Blackmore and Castlewood.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen with additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches possible. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.
