Flood Warning Issued for Monroe, Morgan, and Owen Counties as White River Rises

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for portions of central Indiana through Thursday afternoon following heavy rainfall and expected river flooding.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flood Warning for several locations along the White River in Indiana. The alert is effective immediately and remains in place until Thursday, March 5, at 1:00 PM EST.

Affected Areas

The warning impacts Monroe, Morgan, and Owen counties. Specific areas of concern along the White River include:

  • Below Eagle Valley Power Plant
  • Near Centerton
  • At Edwardsport
  • At Petersburg
  • At Elliston
  • At Newberry

Expected Conditions

Rainfall amounts between two and four inches have already fallen over parts of central and southern Indiana, leading to rising water levels. An additional one to three inches of rain is forecast through Thursday morning, with locally higher amounts possible. These conditions are expected to bring widespread minor river flooding with pockets of moderate flooding to the East Fork White and lower White River basins. At the Eagle Valley Power Plant location, the river is forecast to reach a flood stage of 603.0 feet, at which point low agricultural fields begin to flood.

The Flood Warning is currently in effect and is scheduled to expire at 1:00 PM EST on Thursday, March 5. Current forecasts indicate the river is expected to fall below flood stage shortly after midnight tonight and continue falling through the remainder of the warning period.
