Alert Details
Flood Warning issued by NWS Charleston WV. Effective from August 17, 2026 at 10:38 PM EDT until August 18 at 1:30 AM EDT. Replaces Flash Flood Warning.
Affected Areas
Southeastern Meigs County in southeastern Ohio; West Central Roane County in central West Virginia; Jackson County in northwestern West Virginia; Eastern Mason County in western West Virginia. Specific locations include Ripley, Ravenswood, Sandyville, Kenna, Fairplain, Evans, Given, Statts Mills, Cottageville, Gay, Portland and Mount Alto. Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 124 and 150.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free 800 401 9535 when you can do so safely.
Expected Conditions
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Flooding impacts will continue but no additional rainfall is expected. Emergency management reported flooding near Ripley and south of Ravenswood.
