Alert Details
A Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Chicago IL. The alert is effective from June 21, 2026 at 8:43 PM CDT and remains in effect until June 23, 2026 at 1:00 AM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers Cook County, Illinois and Lake County, Indiana. Specific locations include the Little Calumet River at Munster (Hohman Avenue) and from IN-912 in Hammond downstream to the confluence with Thorn Creek in South Holland. Thorn Creek at Thornton is also included.
What You Should Do
A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
Expected Conditions
Minor flooding is forecast. At 8:00 PM CDT on June 21 the stage was 10.4 feet. The river is expected to rise above the 12.0-foot flood stage late Sunday evening to a crest of around 13 feet Monday morning before falling below flood stage Monday evening. At 12.5 feet, most areas outside of the levee-protected area are inundated in Hammond and Munster.
