Alert Details
A Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Wichita KS. The alert is effective from June 21 at 3:02 AM CDT until June 21 at 7:00 AM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers a portion of central Kansas including Barton, Ellsworth, Rice and Russell counties. Locations that will experience flooding include Great Bend, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Claflin, Holyrood, Bushton, Pawnee Rock, Albert, Lorraine, Olmitz, Milberger, Galatia, Susank, Odin, Cheyenne Bottoms, Great Bend Airport and Silica.
What You Should Do
Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Expected Conditions
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. At 2:59 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms with between 2 and 3 inches of rain having fallen. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.
