Alert Details
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, MI, has issued a Flood Warning. This alert is effective from Thursday evening and will continue until further notice.
Affected Areas
The warning affects Barry County, as well as several rivers including the Grand River near Comstock Park in Kent County, Grand River at Lansing in Ingham County, Grand River at Ionia in Ionia County, Red Cedar River at East Lansing in Ingham County, Maple River at Maple Rapids in Clinton County, Thornapple River above Hastings in Barry County, Buck Creek at Grandville in Kent County, Pine River at Alma in Gratiot County, and Sycamore Creek at Holt in Ingham County.
What You Should Do
Residents are advised to turn around and not drown when encountering flooded roads, as most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Motorists should avoid driving around barricades or through flooded areas.
Expected Conditions
Minor flooding is forecast, with 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain having fallen last night across much of Lower Michigan. Additional showers could add 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain. For the Thornapple River above Hastings, the river stage is at 5.0 feet and is expected to rise above the flood stage of 7.0 feet, cresting at 8.9 feet early Saturday afternoon.
