* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Central Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 845 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 250 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated light-to-moderate rain over locations that received around 2 inches of rain Monday and Monday night. Flooding is ongoing in Arroyo Hondo, and expected to occur in other drainages. Up to 0.3 inches of rain have fallen today. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.25 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Santa Fe, Eldorado At Santa Fe, La Cienega, Cerrillos Hills State Park, Los Cerrillos, La Bajada and Agua Fria. - Around 215 PM, authorities reported homes cutoff due to flooding in Arroyo Hondo. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

What the agency told people to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
