Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Blacksburg VA. Effective from August 1 at 11:26 PM EDT until August 2 at 5:30 AM EDT.

Affected Areas

Western Stokes County in north central North Carolina, eastern Surry County in northwestern North Carolina, and southwestern Patrick County in southwestern Virginia. Locations include Mount Airy, Flat Rock, Pilot Mountain, Danbury, Francisco, Ararat, and Cana. The Ararat River basin is experiencing rapid rise.

What You Should Do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. When safe, send reports of flooding or mudslides to the National Weather Service by calling 1-866-215-4324.

Expected Conditions

Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms have produced heavy rain with 4 to locally 7 inches fallen and up to 0.5 inches additional possible. Flash flooding is already occurring, with life-threatening flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses.
